California Gov. Gavin Newsom Declares State of Emergency over Monkeypox

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) declared a state of emergency in response to the monkeypox virus, which has thus far mostly affected men who have sex with men.

In a statement on Monday, Newsom said the state of California will be working closely with the federal government to make monkeypox vaccines more readily available while also combatting any stigma the LGBTQ community might face.

“We’ll continue to work with the federal government to secure more vaccines, raise awareness about reducing risk, and stand with the LGBTQ community fighting stigmatization,” Newsom said.

According to the Associated Press, roughly 800 cases have been reported in the Golden State, spreading mostly through skin-to-skin contact among men who have sex with men. The virus can also spread through the sharing of bedding, towels, and clothing. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also noted that the virus can spread on surfaces used by individuals with monkeypox. Per the CDC website:

Monkeypox spreads in a few ways.

  • Monkeypox can spread to anyone through close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact, including:
    • Direct contact with monkeypox rash, scabs, or body fluids from a person with monkeypox.
    • Touching objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, or towels), and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox.
    • Contact with respiratory secretions.
  • This direct contact can happen during intimate contact, including:
    • Oral, anal, and vaginal sex or touching the genitals (penis, testicles, labia, and vagina) or anus (butthole) of a person with monkeypox.
    • Hugging, massage, and kissing.
    • Prolonged face-to-face contact.
    • Touching fabrics and objects during sex that were used by a person with monkeypox and that have not been disinfected, such as bedding, towels, fetish gear, and sex toys.
  • A pregnant person can spread the virus to their fetus through the placenta.

It’s also possible for people to get monkeypox from infected animals, either by being scratched or bitten by the animal or by preparing or eating meat or using products from an infected animal.

Michelle Gibbons, executive director of the County Health Executives Association of California, said stigma toward individuals infected with monkeypox will only hurt the public health response, emphasizing that anyone can be infected with the virus.

“Public health officials are clear: stigma is unacceptable and counterproductive in public health response,” she said in a statement. “The fact is that monkeypox is primarily spread by skin to skin contact and sharing objects like bedding or towels, without regard to sexual orientation or gender identity.”

California’s declaration comes after New York state and San Francisco made their own state of emergency declarations to combat the monkeypox virus.

San Francisco Holds Kink & Fetish Fest: Get Monkeypox Vaccine and Go for It

San Francisco held its “Kink and Fetish” sex festival on Sunday despite the spread of the monkeypox virus among homosexual men. Organizers said they took precautions such as putting booths ten feet apart and requiring vaccination cards for coronavirus and monkeypox to enter the venues.

“Things that used to be audience participation are not, to keep people from smooshing together,” Angel Adeyoha, executive director of Folsom Street, the group that produces the Up Your Alley event,” said in a San Francisco Chronicle report. “We’re trying to keep people from smooshing together.”

The Chronicle reported:

[The event] still didn’t match the packed-in scene of years past. The estimated total crowd was 7,000 through the course of the day, compared with a more typical year that would see about 10,000, police said. Police estimated it peaked at 2,000 to 3,000 around 4 p.m.

City officials declared a public health emergency for monkeypox just days before the Dore Alley fair. COVID-19 testing was offered by the Department of Public Health. There was no monkeypox testing, and you had to look to find a preventative leaflet about the virus.

Officials said only hired professional fetishists would be involved in sadomasochistic activity.

“Speaking as a veteran of the HIV wars, we don’t preach. We offer information,” Cal Callahan, manager of the city’s official Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District, said in the Chronicle report.

“With this crowd, everyone wants to get paddled,” said Big Daddy Larry Rich, CEO of Bare Chest Calendar. “If it doesn’t land there, people ask to spin it again. San Francisco is a kinky city, and this fair is our dirty little secret.”

New York City Declares Public Health Emergency over Monkeypox

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) declared monkeypox a public health emergency on Monday following Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) declaring a state of emergency last week, as the mayor claimed the outbreak “continues to grow” in the city.

“As the monkeypox outbreak continues to grow in New York City and across the country, I am today issuing an emergency executive order declaring a local state of emergency,” Adams said in a Monday statement, explaining that the city now has over 1,200 cases, comprising “approximately 25 percent of cases nationally.”

Numbers, he added, are continuing to rise.

“This order will bolster our existing efforts to educate, vaccinate, test, and treat as many New Yorkers as possible and ensure a whole-of-government response to this outbreak. In partnership with federal, state, and local officials we will continue to respond with the urgency required to keep people safe, and this order is another tool to help us do so,” he said.

His announcement follows action taken by Gov. Hochul on Friday, declaring a State Disaster Emergency over monkeypox.

“This Executive Order enables us to respond more swiftly, and allows health care professionals to take additional steps that will help get more New Yorkers vaccinated,” Hochul said, adding that “more than one in four monkeypox cases in this country are in New York, currently having a disproportionate impact on at-risk groups.”

“We are working around the clock to secure more vaccines, expand testing capacity, and educate New Yorkers on how to stay safe,” she added:

New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett said most of the cases are spreading through sexual contact — primarily among men who have sex with other men.

“With more than one-quarter of all cases in the U.S., New Yorkers, and especially our LGBTQ+ community, remain among the hardest-hit,” Hochul said in a statement.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. has 5,189 confirmed cases of the illness, the most of which are in New York and California. Similarly, the City of San Francisco declared a public health emergency over the monkeypox outbreak as well.

A recent Annenberg Public Policy Center survey found that the vast majority of Americans, 81 percent, are “not too worried” or “not at all worried” about catching monkeypox, but a result of the rise in cases, the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is urging gay men to reduce their number of sexual partners.

The idle billionaires do not know what to do with all their money. But they certainly don’t miss out on a chance to pour cash on faux anti-imperialists intended to lead those seeking real change down crooked paths to the valley of damnation.

That cheap trick was once the territory of the Democratic Party. Sadly, that donkey, or shall we say Trojan horse, has been so overload and weighed down with the droppings of the parasite class that now new fraudulent revolutionaries have to be trotted out.

Let me give you two examples.

The first is the anti-globalist Adam Brooks (on that horrific forum Twitter) who wrote,

“Five deaths of Monkeypox worldwide, all from African countries, 98% of cases amongst men that have sexual relations with other men. Please explain how this is a global emergency? Why did you overrule your advisory panel Dr. Tedros?”

Although this post is seemingly critical of the establishment (for the naïve, or for those suffering from denial syndrome) the comment cements in place a fascistic system dedicated to the destruction of human civilization.

There is no reason to believe that Monkeypox even exists, or that anybody suffers from it at all. The fairy tales of this disease are not subject to any scientific analysis, and although it is entirely possible that biological weapons were, or will be used, and then the results blamed on “monkeypox” the World Health Organization’s Director General, reporting to the super-rich, is untrustworthy. Nothing he says should be taken seriously.

The stupid little story that is being propped up so as to distract from structural shifts in our society concerns the unethical actions of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization. Supposedly, he overruled WHO’s advisory board and declared that Monkeypox is a global emergency.

Nothing could be more irrelevant than this event, if it even happened at all.

The purpose of launching these wind-up anti-establishment figures is not to set things right, or to make the WHO into a dependable organization.

There are steps that could be taken to transform that criminal organization, but he never mentions them.

No, he is part of a larger psychological operation aimed not at specific targets, but rather at destroying the trust of people in all institutions. The impression given to the public is that the institutions on which they must rely have gone insane, are possessed by devils, by evil spirits.

There is no offer of a plan, or the presentation of a careful analysis of who owns what, and how decisions are actually made. No, the director general is just a bad apple, perhaps an indication of some greater decline which is unknowable and unstoppable.

Another example is the pronouncements of Richard Wolff (professor at University of Massachusetts Amherst) on Democracy Now (July 27) about the recent raising of interest rates by the Federal Reserve. He talks about the redistribution of wealth in the United States, and identifies a real issue there, but he then embraces the fraudulent argument that the COVID-19 pandemic was somehow real and that the rise in interest rates is a “body blow” to workers.

The truth is that the COVID-19 scam was the body blow to workers, not because of some virus, but because multinational banks stole some 13 billion dollars, or more, and shut down the economy. The current rise in interest rates is a sideshow, at best.

Wolff does not even touch on the process by which private capital makes national monetary policy at the Federal Reserve, or how the concentration of wealth is planned out, and implemented, on a global scale by the super-rich.

In effect, he is offering up a bucketful of red herrings.

Let us see what he says about economics,

“But perhaps what’s not understood is who raises the prices. That little economics detail is so often lost. Employers, the class of employers in our society, that’s who sets the prices. Employees are excluded from that activity. Employers in the United States are 1% of the population, if that. Those of us who have to take the prices they choose to raise, we are the 99%. And there’s no democracy in allowing 1% of the people to set prices that 99% of the people are forced to pay, for food, clothing, shelter and all the rest.”

This is legerdemain that would make Houdini envious. Employers maybe one percent of the population of the United States, but they are the small fry. It is the 0.01%, or less, of global investment bankers and billionaires who make fiscal policy and who now dominate the media, education, trade and transportation, food and medicine, on a scale unknown in human history. They are the threat, not “employers.”

Of course those “employers” at corporations learn their tricks of the trade from the parasite class, but to go after them is like going after a lizard in a jungle of tigers.

The ultimate purpose of these false critics is to stir up free floating anxiety and suggest an ill-defined, frightening chaos in all institutions that is confusing and disorienting for the public. The goal is to create a world in which nothing and nobody can be trusted.

There is no roadmap available from these oracles because it is not their job to help us.

Once the chaos reaches the boiling point, something most likely already decided by banks of supercomputers, then a messiah figure will be trotted out, much as Adolf Hitler was after Germany had been torn to pieces by hyperinflation.

This messiah will solve the problems no one else could solve (because others were not allowed to solve problems).

But following this false messiah will mean accepting complete control by hidden forces, and renouncing all participatory politics. Many, perhaps most, will chose to follow because the destruction of institutions has left them with no bearings, with no internal compass. After that choice, however, there will be no more choices.

New York Declares Monkeypox an Imminent Public Health Threat — 1,300 Confirmed Cases Statewide

New York State on Thursday declared the Monkeypox outbreak an imminent threat to public health as the Biden administration moves to combat the spread of the viral disease.

“This declaration means that local health departments engaged in response and prevention activities will be able to access additional State reimbursement, after other Federal and State funding sources are maximized, to protect all New Yorkers and ultimately limit the spread of monkeypox in our communities,” stated Dr. Mary Bassett, who serves as New York State Health Commissioner.

As of Thursday, New York confirmed 1,341 Monkeypox cases, with 1,289 cases in New York City alone, according to state public health officials.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) said the Biden administration has assisted the state in securing 110,000 Monkeypox vaccine doses. A majority of the doses will be shipped to New York City.

“With more than one-quarter of all cases in the U.S., New Yorkers, and especially our LGBTQ+ community, remain among the hardest-hit. We will continue to advocate to the federal government for our fair share of vaccines based on the disease burden impacting New York,” Hochul said in a statement.

“My team and I have been working around the clock to confront the monkeypox outbreak and keep New Yorkers safe, and we will continue our ongoing efforts to secure more vaccines, expand testing capacity, and educate the public on how to identify symptoms and protect themselves,” the governor added.

The development comes after the City of San Francisco declared a public health emergency over the Monkeypox outbreak. The declaration will take effect on August 1 and allow local officials to dedicate additional resources to combat the viral disease, San Francisco Mayor London Breed (D) said.

Breed’s action follows criticism from top California Democrats, including Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), regarding the lack of Monkeypox vaccines for state residents.

“I don’t know why there aren’t more vaccines available,” a frustrated Schiff told CBS’s Face the Nation Sunday. “I’m hearing from health care providers in my district that there are people lining up to get vaccinated, and they don’t have the vaccines for them, and that is a real problem. As I think you indicated, we really don’t know the future course of this virus. But what we do now, early on, just as was the case with the pandemic, will determine just how bad this may get.”

This week, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the global spread of Monkeypox is an international health emergency.

The U.S. has the second-highest amount of confirmed Monkeypox cases in the world at 3,590 cases, while Spain has the highest with 3,738, according to data released via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Nolte: Joe Biden Leads America to #1 in Monkeypox Cases

According to the CDC, Joe Biden’s America leads the world in monkeypox cases.

Finally, America is number one at something again.

Per the Wall Street Journal:

The U.S. has reported more than 3,400 confirmed or suspected monkeypox cases, federal data showed, becoming the country with the most known infections since the onset of the global health emergency.

The rise in cases comes as the U.S. expands testing capacity, broadening the ability to spot new infections, but also as the global outbreak continues to grow. Some public-health experts said rising transmission heightens the chances a broader population will face the risk of infections as the opportunity to slow and potentially stop the outbreak is fading.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden is down with the coronavirus, himself a victim of another pandemic he pledged to stop and didn’t. So yes, even though Donald Trump handed Biden a vaccine, more Americans still died under the Biden administration.

How is it possible that we just went through the coronavirus pandemic, and the CDC and Joe Biden still bungled monkeypox? For example…

“Meanwhile, testing capacity, another bottleneck, has improved.”

A testing bottleneck? Have we learned anything over the past two years about avoiding these bottlenecks? Even after two years of experience and trillions of dollars, the U.S. government is still incapable of ramping up testing with the flip of a switch?

Oh, and we still don’t have enough monkeypox vaccines.

We’re two months into the monkeypox pandemic, and adequate testing and vaccines are still not in place.

But here’s Joe Biden at a press conference back in May assuring everyone he’s got this, nothing to worry about, carry on…

QUESTION:  Thank you so much. I have a question for the Prime Minister, but first to you, Mr. President: We’re already dealing with one global pandemic, and you said yesterday that monkeypox is something that everyone should be concerned about. There are a few confirmed cases in the U.S., and some countries are imposing 21-day quarantines for people who are infected or even, in some cases, just exposed. Should Americans expect something similar?

PRESIDENT BIDEN: No, I don’t think so. Look, we’ve had this monkeypox in the larger numbers in the past, number one. Number two, we have vaccines to care for it — to take care of it. Number three, there is — thus far, there doesn’t seem to be a need for any kind of extra — extra efforts beyond what’s going on. And so, I just don’t think it rises to the level of the kind of concern that existed with COVID-19 or — and the smallpox vaccine works for it. So — but I think people should be careful.

QUESTION: Do you think that the U.S. has enough smallpox vaccine stockpiled?

PRESIDENT BIDEN: I think we do have enough to deal with the likelihood of the problem.

The American government is useless. If our public health institutions should be prepared for only one thing, it should be a pandemic. But here we go again, making the same mistakes.

But of course, the only thing the government is not repeating pertains to this:

The outbreak has largely been recorded among men who have sex with men, as the virus exploits social networks among people in close contact. This is already a concern, but spreading more broadly means the potential added challenge of trying to educate and protect a broader population, health experts said.

The government knows that a very specific behavior spreads monkeypox but is not attempting to discourage or shame that behavior. This, of course, is the exact opposite of what we saw with the coronavirus when pretty much everything that qualified as normal human behavior was shamed as an act of mass murder: church, hugs, visits, going to the beach, attending school… And the coronavirus was a viral infection. Something spread mostly through the air. What’s more, from what we saw in the few states that did not restrict behavior, the restriction of behavior made no difference in stopping the China Flu spread.

But monkeypox actually does appear to spread primarily through a specific act— gay sex, which is why the outbreak has — at least so far — been almost entirely seen among gay and bisexual men.

But no one’s telling them to knock it off.

Your kids couldn’t go to school. Your family wasn’t allowed in church. But gay sex is a-okay!

Don’t worry, America. Help is on the way… The White House is about to name a “monkeypox coordinator,” so that should solve everything.

‘Unprecedented’: W.H.O. Chief Tedros Defied Experts to Declare Monkeypox Emergency, Falsely Claims 9-6 Vote a ‘Tie’

World Health Organization (W.H.O.) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus took the “unprecedented” measure this weekend of ignoring the agency’s special advisory committee to declare the spread of monkeypox a “public health emergency of international concern” – despite his lack of medical background and his own admission that the risk of it spreading was “moderate” at worst.

Tedros is the first W.H.O. director-general who is not a medical doctor and rose to the position after being accused of helping cover up multiple outbreaks of cholera in his native Ethiopia, where he served as foreign affairs minister and health minister under the now-outlawed Marxist party, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

As head of the W.H.O., Tedros has faced an array of criticism for not reacting sufficiently quickly to an outbreak of Ebola in Africa under his watch and, more prominently, for failing to declare the spread of Chinese coronavirus a global emergency, and later a pandemic, in a timely manner.

Concerns regarding Tedros’ actions on monkeypox posit the opposite problem – that he overreacted to a situation, even as the medical experts tasked with assessing the risk did not believe it merited the label of public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).

[embedded content]

The special advisory committee, which Tedros is not mandated to obey but expected to listen to, concluded last month that the spread of monkeypox globally did not yet rise to the title of global emergency. Its 15 members similarly concluded by majority this week that the situation remained the same – nine panel members opposed using the label PHEIC while six supported it, according to Reuters.

Reuters bizarrely described Tedros overriding the panel to declare a global emergency a “tie-breaker,” despite nine versus six not being a tie. Tedros himself described the situation as such, claiming he “had to act as a tie-breaker” on Saturday — revealing the news wire as a mere stenographer to his spin.

Science magazine observed, citing health experts, that Tedros’ declaration was the first of its kind in the history of the World Health Organization, a United Nations agency.

“This is big, unprecedented decision-making by the director general,” Clare Wenham, a global health expert at the London School of Economics, told Science. The PHEIC system has existed for 17 years.

The magazine added the context that the special advisory panel convened for seven hours before deciding by a majority that the W.H.O. should not declare a PHEIC, the highest level of warning to the world on a public health event. Science noted, providing little further detail, that the seven-hour meeting on Thursday “was followed by tense exchanges via email and text messages between those who had taken part.”

“Among the objections to a PHEIC raised by members of the committee was that the disease had caused few deaths so far and was not spreading in the general population,” Science reported, “along with fears that a PHEIC could lead to further stigmatization of men who have sex with men (MSM), the group primarily affected.”

According to Rosamund Lewis, the W.H.O.’s top monkeypox expert, 99 percent of individuals diagnosed with monkeypox outside of Africa were men and 98 percent of those were men who have sex with men.

“Experts suspect the monkeypox outbreaks in Europe and North America were spread via sex at two raves in Belgium and Spain,” the Associated Press observed this weekend.

Tedros defended his decision in remarks on Saturday in which he claimed that the committee “was unable to reach a consensus on whether the outbreak represents a public health emergency of international concern,” despite the fact that most members of the committee did reach a consensus against declaring a PHEIC.

He acknowledged the evidence that the disease appeared to be spreading within a singular community and used it to pressure governments to “work closely with communities of men who have sex with men, to design and deliver effective information and services, and to adopt measures that protect the health, human rights and dignity of affected communities.”

“Stigma and discrimination can be as dangerous as any virus,” Tedros declared. He added that the fact that the disease was not spreading widely among a generalized population did not diminish the PHEIC, but rather meant “that this is an outbreak that can be stopped with the right strategies in the right groups.”

“WHO’s assessment is that the risk of monkeypox is moderate globally and in all regions, except in the European region where we assess the risk as high,” Tedros said. “There is also a clear risk of further international spread, although the risk of interference with international traffic remains low for the moment.”

The executive director of the World Health Organization’s Health Emergencies Programme, Michael Ryan, insisted in remarks reproduced by the Associated Press this weekend that Tedros was “not going against the committee” by ignoring the majority of the committee.

“[Tedros] found that the committee did not reach a consensus, despite having a very open, very useful, very considered debate on the issues,” Ryan told reporters, “and that since he’s not going against the committee, what he’s recognizing is that there are deep complexities in this issue. There are uncertainties on all sides.”

The administration of leftist American President Joe Biden lent its support to Tedros in a statement this weekend.

“Today’s decision by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) to declare the current monkeypox outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern is a call to action for the world community to stop the spread of this virus,” the White House asserted on Saturday.

“A coordinated, international response is essential to stop the spread of monkeypox, protect communities at greatest risk of contracting the disease, and combat the current outbreak.”

Tedros’ decision on monkeypox is the latest in a career littered with controversies and accusations of disregarding medical experts – a particularly grave transgression in light of the fact that Tedros was a career politician in Ethiopia prior to his ascent at the agency and not a medical doctor.

In 2017, when running for the position of director-general, the far-left newspaper New York Times detailed accusations against Tedros of having covered up at least three cholera outbreaks in Ethiopia by simply refusing to formally diagnose individuals suffering from clear cholera symptoms with the disease.

“Outbreaks occurring in 2006, 2009 and 2011, he said, were only ‘acute watery diarrhea’ in remote areas where laboratory testing ‘is difficult,’” according to the New York Times.

According to the W.H.O., cholera is “an acute diarrhoeal disease.”

Tedros also faced criticism for refusing to raise the PHEIC alarm over an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda in 2019 despite Tedros saying then that, unlike his description of monkeypox this weekend, “the risk of spread across the border is high.” Tedros dismissed the outbreak as “unsurprising.”

During the early days of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, believed to have begun in fall 2019 in central Wuhan, China, Tedros’ W.H.O. claimed that “no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission” of the highly contagious disease existed – despite having received an email from the government of Taiwan in late December warning of an infectious disease spreading in China. A report by the German newspaper Der Spiegel in May 2020 accused Tedros of conspiring with dictator Xi Jinping not to brand the global spread of Chinese coronavirus a pandemic in a phone call allegedly taking place on January 21. Both Tedros and the Chinese Communist Party denied that the call ever happened.

Tedros was “reelected” in an uncontested race to lead the W.H.O. for a second term last year.

Lawmakers Pressure Biden Administration on Monkeypox Failure

The Biden administration’s failures to adequately handle the monkeypox epidemic have drawn criticism from lawmakers of various political persuasions.

Last week, the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) declared a global emergency over monkeypox, which appears to primarily be affecting men who have sex with men in the United States. On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) cited 2,600 confirmed cases, which may not accurately reflect the gravity of the situation due to a lack of testing.

As CNN recently reported, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says the “number of monkeypox vaccine doses distributed across the United States has more than tripled since last week,” but the supply from the Biden administration has continued to fall short of the demand. Last week, as many as 132,000 doses of the two-dose Jynneos vaccine were distributed across the nation — not nearly enough to meet the current demand.

According to the Hill, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have since been calling on Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra to lay out a more detailed plan on how the administration plans to handle the outbreak. Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) called the administration’s response “disturbing” in a letter to Becerra.

The Associated Press

“The administration has the tools and authorities necessary to combat these threats. Your failures to act are a threat to public health, and especially for gay and bisexual men who are at highest risk,” wrote Burr. “The government failed this population at the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, we should not fail them again.”

Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) and Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) both sent similar letters to Becerra critical of the administration’s response while 50 House Democrats issued their own letter to President Joe Biden urging him to declare a public health emergency.

“Doing so would make available a number of authorities to accelerate the federal response and tap into additional resources to procure vaccines and distribute them swiftly across the country,” they wrote.

Last Thursday, the HHS simply released a data sheet on the administration’s response to the monkeypox crisis while giving no indication about any future briefings.

“Over the coming days and weeks, HHS will continue to strengthen and accelerate its strategy on combatting monkeypox and work closely with public health officials and stakeholders in high-risk communities to get vaccines, testing, and treatments out to communities across the country,” said the department.

The department also said that testing for monkeypox has steadily risen to 80,000 per week.

In a press briefing on Friday, the White House said they will be seeking to expand access to vaccines and antivirals while Coronavirus Response Coordinator Ashish Jha responded to some of the lawmakers’ concerns.

“We have been leveraging all the resources at our disposal since the earliest days of this outbreak,” Jha said.

Jha noted that over 300,000 doses of the vaccines have been shipped, and many more doses are expected to arrive from Denmark in a few weeks.

“Both CDC and FDA have been working very hard to streamline that process for accessing treatment to make it easier for clinicians to order it … to get it for their patients. That is ongoing work but it’s going to continue to accelerate,” said Jha.

Jha also said the White House has been discussing whether or not to declare a public health emergency.

“We’re looking at that, looking at what are the ways in which the response could be enhanced, if any, by declaring a public health emergency,” he said. “I think with public health emergencies, it’s always important to sort of ask very specific questions about what exactly would that allow us to be able to do differently than we’re doing now. And would that make it easier to be able to respond to this outbreak? So, I will just say there’s no final decision on this that I’m aware of.”
