Breitbart News Daily Podcast Ep. 190: Inflation Reduction Act, Really? Guest: John Hayward on Fallout from Pelosi’s Trip to Taiwan

Jerome Hudson, filling in for host Alex Marlow, opens with the news that Arizona’s Democrat Senator Kyrsten Sinema caved. She’s joined Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to help Joe Biden pass a 9-figure Build Back Better-lite called the Inflation Reduction Act, which reportedly won’t reduce inflation and may make it worse. Speaking of inflation, food lines in America are getting longer under Biden as pet owners are abandoning their furry friends at alarming rates because the cost of feeding them is sky high. Then, Biden ends another week as virtual president and has tested positive for COVID again. Plus, FBI Director Chris Wray warns of potential terror attacks from Afghanistan. Finally, WNBA Star Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison on drug charges, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has sidelined a George Soros-backed state’s attorney. Our guest today is John Hayward, Breitbart’s deputy editor for international news. John unpacks House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan and China’s attention-seeking response to it. He also highlights the potential danger of a Chinese food manufacturing company that has bought 300 acres of land in North Dakota, just 20 minutes from the Grand Forks Air Force Base.

The Breitbart News Daily Podcast runs Monday through Friday as a “Director’s Cut” of the SXM Patriot radio show. Hosted by Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow, you’ll hear Alex’s take on the big political stories, interviews with various newsmakers, and the Patriot “Caller of the Day.”

PODCAST: Josephine Beckhurst and the #SaveSorryBusiness Canberra Day of Action

Josephine Beckhurst is a Yorta Yorta woman from Barmah in Victoria’s north. Josephine and her family are among the many thousands of First Nations Australians ripped off by Youpla/ACBF, the funeral insurance fund that collapsed earlier this year.

On August 3, #SaveSorryCampaign members went to Canberra to lobby Parliament and advocate for a redress scheme to provide justice to families who have lost out. Josephine gave a lunchtime talk to Consumer Action staff and explained how her family became involved with Youpla/ACBF.

“I had a few family members that were joined up, myself, my son. It makes us all angry, upset,” Josephine says.

“They said it was Aboriginal run, they explained it to my mother who thought it was a good thing to join up -they couldn’t afford to pay for a funeral straight up- joining up was the only way to pay for a funeral for a loved one who has passed away,” she says.

Josephine said the Government’s promise of $4million is a good start, but she would like community to get their money back plus be compensated for the stress they are going through.

Exclusive — Sen. Rand Paul: ‘Hearing on Gain-of-Function Research’ Will Examine Government Funding of ‘Superviruses’

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said on Wednesday’s edition of the Breitbart News Daily podcast with host Alex Marlow that the same day’s Senate hearing on the federal government’s funding of gain-of-function research on viruses would be the first of its kind since the COVID-19 outbreak.

Paul previewed a hearing held by a Senate subcommittee on Wednesday described by C-SPAN as an examination of “federal investment into the gain of function research of viruses and diseases.”

Gain-of-function research, Paul said, involves manipulation of viruses to change their virulence and lethality.

“This will be the first hearing on gain-of-function research,” Paul stated. “This is the research that was going on in the lab where they take a virus that has known mortality, like one of the coronaviruses that has somewhere between 15 and 30 percent mortality, then they mix it with an s-protein from an unknown virus from a bat cave about 800 miles away, and they scratch their heads and they say, ‘Wow, I wonder if we mix it with these new viruses, if we can make it more infectious in humans.’”

He said gain-of-function research has involved the infection of “humanized mice” that “have human lung cells” with genetically modified viruses. Researchers discovered that they could “create viruses,” including “superviruses,” that are “more infectious than ones found in nature and still very deadly.”

Paul continued, “This is gain-of-function research. This is what Dr. Fauci has repeatedly said they didn’t fund, but we’re going to have three esteemed scientists today who, I think, will acknowledge that this is the kind of research that was going on over there, that it was gain-of-function, and it did meet the definition.”

In May 2021, Anthony Fauci, then director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), testified under oath to a Senate committee that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) never funded gain-of-function research at the virology institute in Wuhan, China.

Fauci stated, “The NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

“Dr. Fauci lied,” Paul remarked. “Basically, there was gain-of-function research going on in the lab in Wuhan. … “Six and a half million people have died worldwide from this virus, and many of us think it came from the lab, but all of us that are honest know that this was type of research was going on, and it’s a possibility that it came from the lab.”

He continued, “This is the first hearing on the origins of the virus [and] the gain-of-function research we’ve had in two and a half years. It’s extraordinary. We will have hearings in Washington about whether or not your furniture causes cancer, whether or not plastic in your bottles causes cancer, but we have not yet had one hearing [on] origins of a virus that killed millions of people.”

Marlow asked about parents opting against provision of COVID-19 vaccines for their children.

“People are smarter than we gave them credit for,” Paul replied. “People think that an elite group of scientists need to dictate our behaviors, and they’re all smarter than we are, but parents are pretty smart. The statistics are out there.”

The CDC issued a report in April estimating that approximately 75 percent of children — specifically 76.8 percent aged 0-11 years and 74.2 percent between the ages of 12 and 17 — had immunity to COVID-19. The CDC’s data were composed of blood tests searching for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.

Paul said, “It’s also widely known that the immunity that you get from having the disease is protective. It’s at least as good as the vaccines — probably longer lasting than the vaccine — and probably more potent than the vaccine.”

He shared that he had been “bugging the CDC” to “be honest with the parents and release the data” of mortality rates among children reinfected with COVID-19.

“They say, ‘Oh, we don’t have the data,’” Paul said of the CDC. “The reason they don’t have the data is because the number is zero. I think zero children have died from a reinfection of COVID after they’ve had it. If 80 percent of them have had it, why in the world would we be putting them in masks? Why in the world would we be mandating vaccines for kids who have already had it?”

A study published by the medical journal Lancet in March found no deaths among 2,343 reinfections of COVID-19 it examined among children.

Chuck Grassley: ‘Highly Credible’ Whistleblowers Say FBI, DoJ Downplay Negative Hunter Biden Information

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) claimed that “highly credible” whistleblowers informed him of efforts within the FBI and the Justice Department to downplay or dismiss negative information about Hunter Biden.

According to letters reviewed by CBS News, Grassley, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland alleging that sources within the FBI presented to him evidence of attempts to downplay or discredit information about Hunter Biden.

“The information provided to my office involves concerns about the FBI’s receipt and use of derogatory information relating to Hunter Biden, and the FBI’s false portrayal of acquired evidence as disinformation. The volume and consistency of these allegations substantiate their credibility and necessitate this letter,” wrote Grassley.

“First, it’s been alleged that the FBI developed information in 2020 about Hunter Biden’s criminal financial and related activity,” he continued. “It is further alleged that in August 2020, FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst Brian Auten opened an assessment which was used by an FBI Headquarters (“FBI HQ”) team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation and caused investigative activity to cease.”

Grassley’s letter further alleged that just one month before the 2020 election, “an avenue of derogatory Hunter Biden reporting was ordered closed” by a senior FBI agent at the bureau’s Washington Field office.

“The allegations provided to my office appear to indicate that there was a scheme in place among certain FBI officials to undermine derogatory information connected to Hunter Biden by falsely suggesting it was disinformation,” wrote Grassley.

CBS News noted that “more than 150 financial transactions involving either Hunter or James Biden’s global business affairs were flagged as concerning by U.S. banks for further review.”

Delaware U.S. attorney David Weiss, whose office has been investigating potential tax fraud, money laundering, and foreign influence peddling, declined to comment on whether his office was aware of the FBI allegedly labeling accusations against Hunter Biden disinformation or if it had influenced his probe.

In a previous letter dated May 31, Grassley also accused Timothy Thibault, the senior FBI agent at the bureau’s Washington Field Office, of possibly violating “[f]ederal laws, regulations and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) guidelines.”

“Whistleblowers have reported to me, that although the FBI and Justice Department maintain policies dictating specific standards requiring substantial factual predication to initiate an investigation, Thibault and other Justice Department and FBI employees failed to comply with these requirements,” wrote Grassley.

“In light of these allegations, I remain very concerned that political bias by a select group of Justice Department and FBI officials has infected the Justice Department’s and FBI’s usual process and procedure to open and pursue high-profile and politically charged investigations,” Grassley continued.

Grassley concluded by requesting records from the FBI and Justice Department by August 8 while alleging that Garland and Wray “have systemic and existential problems within” their respective agencies.

In addition to requesting records from the FBI and the Justice Department by Aug. 8, Grassley complained about the way the bureau and department are being run.

“You have an obligation to the country to take these allegations seriously, immediately investigate,” he concluded.

As Breitbart News recently reported, Hunter Biden could potentially face criminal charges for not registering as a foreign agent while doing business deals overseas.

In 2018 and 2020, Breitbart senior contributor and Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer published Secret Empires and Profiles in Corruption. Each book hit #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and exposed how Hunter Biden and Joe Biden flew aboard Air Force Two in 2013 to China ten days before Hunter’s firm inked a $1.5 billion deal with a subsidiary of the Chinese government’s Bank of China. Schweizer’s work also uncovered the Biden family’s other vast and lucrative foreign deals and cronyism.

Breitbart political editor Emma-Jo Morris’s investigative work on the Hunter Biden “laptop from hell” also captured international headlines when she, along with Miranda Devine, revealed Joe Biden was intimately involved in Hunter’s businesses, appearing to even have a ten percent stake in a company the scion formed with officials at the highest levels of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Exclusive: Steve Milloy — Blackouts and Brownouts Seen in California and Texas ‘Coming to the Rest of Us’

Increasing adoption of solar and wind power, combined with government-driven removal of fossil fuel-sourced electricity, will spread blackouts and brownouts across America, Steve Milloy, senior legal fellow at the Energy and Environment Legal Institute, warned on Wednesday’s edition of the Breitbart News Daily podcast with special guest host Jerome Hudson.

Milloy said blackouts and brownouts seen in California and Texas are previews of a broader electricity shortage across the U.S. if the government continues to undermine fossil fuel production and consumption while artificially bolstering solar- and wind-sourced electricity.

“We have governments across the country — including Republican governments like in Texas — who are weakening our power grid with solar and wind and getting rid of coal and natural gas and baseload power,” he remarked.

He added, “We’re under real threats of these things, especially places like Texas and California, and it’s coming to the rest of us. Even Republicans are falling for this. They may not be going for Joe Biden’s climate agenda, but they are falling for the money from the wind industry and the solar industry, and of course the solar industry depends on slave labor in communist China.”

Milloy identified “green energy” as a nonsensical neologism coined for the purpose of misleading the public into viewing renewable energy sources as somehow environmentally advantageous relative to fossil fuel alternatives.

“This ‘clean’ or ‘green energy’ future, I hate when people use those words, because they have no meaning,” he noted. “What’s so clean and green about windmills and solar panels? It means you have no idea what you’re talking about, or where these things come from, and what they produce.”

The Chinese Communist Party is a primary beneficiary of the “global warming” and “climate change” enterprise, noted Milloy.

“The wind industry and the solar industry, and of course solar industry depends on slave labor in communist China,” he concluded. “Who wants to be dependent on that?”

The International Energy Agency, an intergovernmental organization describing itself as committed to a “secure and sustainable energy future,” acknowledged China’s centrality in solar panel production.

It assessed, “China is the most cost-competitive location to manufacture all components of the solar PV supply chain. Costs in China are 10% lower than in India, 20% lower than in the United States, and 35% lower than in Europe.”

Democrats Likely to Oppose Joe Biden’s Gas Tax Holiday

House Democrats are not convinced President Joe Biden’s gas tax holiday is the correct method to reduce pain at the pump for consumers.

While Biden is set to demand this afternoon Congress cut the 18 cents federal gas tax for three months, powerful Democrats are not as excited about the proposal as the president.

“We’re just looking at the data now. We want to see where the relief really comes, and whether it’s going to the consumers or to the [oil] companies,” House Ways and Means Committee Chair Richie Neal (D-MA) told Punchbowl News. “There is no guarantee that any sort of suspension of the gas tax will be passed on to consumers.”

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) also is not convinced Biden’s gas tax holiday is the right solution, though he wants his party to “be doing something” about the gas prices that have doubled under its leadership.

“I have not been a proponent of the gas tax [holiday],” Hoyer stated. “There’s no guarantee that the sellers, either wholesale or retail, will reduce their prices. And then, of course, we’ve got to backfill [the Highway Trust Fund]. I just don’t know that it gives much relief.”

Neal also told Punchbowl that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) should weigh in on Biden’s proposal. “I’m not committed to it. I want to talk to the speaker about it, and we’re going to go back and forth. I want some assurance that the money is going to go to the consumer,” he added.

Pelosi weighed in Wednesday afternoon but remained noncommittal. “We will see where the consensus lies on a path forward for the President’s proposal in the House and the Senate,” she said.

Pelosi has opposed lifting the federal gas tax in the past. “We have a situation where there’s money coming out of the Highway Trust Fund, it’s going to the oil companies, they may not give it to the consumer, and it has to be paid for. … That’s the con,” Pelosi explained her thinking in March.

Additional powerful Democrats have agreed with Pelosi, such as House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Peter DeFazio (D-OR).

“As discussions on possibly suspending the federal gas tax continue, I urge my colleagues to see this for what it is: a short-sighted proposal that relies on the cooperation of oil companies to pass on minuscule savings to consumers,” DeFazio told the Hill.

“Suspending the federal gas tax will not provide meaningful relief at the pump for American families, but it will blow a multi-billion-dollar hole in the highway trust fund putting funding for future infrastructure projects at risk,” he continued.

Over in the Senate, Politico reported Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will not promise to put the gas tax holiday bill on up for a vote.

Jason Furman, an economist who served under Barack Obama and now teaches economics at Harvard, agreed that Biden’s proposed gas tax holiday would benefit oil companies, not consumers.

If supply is not very responsive to price (the situation now) then most of the benefit of the tax cut will go to suppliers. The intuition is that if it was passed onto consumers they would want to consume more than could be produced–driving prices back up,” Furman said.

The record-high prices come as Biden has waged a war on American oil, which includes driving up private and public financing costs of oil drilling, halting drilling on public lands, and canceling the Keystone pipeline.

Biden’s anti-energy policies fulfill his campaign promises. In 2020, he told a cheering crowd that if he were to become president, he would wage a war on the American oil industry by terminating subsidies and drilling feasibility.

“I want you to look at my eyes. I guarantee you, I guarantee you we’re going to end fossil fuels,” Biden said in 2019.

According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), Americans will pay $450 more for gas in 2022 than they did last year on an inflation-adjusted basis.

Relationships Matter: Keys to Be a Good Father and Build a Good Marriage

In the face of possible death, a husband and father realised that his family mattered far more than his business. With a new lease of life, he embarked on prioritising his relationships. Dads4Kids invites you to do the same.

Harvey MacKay said, “The quality of your life is determined by the quality of your relationships.” MacKay knows a thing or two.

Harvey is a very successful businessman, married for over 50 years to his architect wife, with three children and eleven grandchildren. Harvey MacKay has sold over 10 million books about business and building a successful life.

Interviewing Steve Smith for the Dads4Kids podcast reminded me a lot of Harvey MacKay. Steve is an intentional father of four, husband and businessman. MacKay once said, “When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

Priorities

Steve Smith is the inspirational planner who puts his close relationships at the top of the list; his business always comes second — and he is all the happier for it. Watch his story below.

[embedded content]

In 1991, when Steve was only 25 years old, he was diagnosed with leukemia and given six weeks to live. Miraculously, he survived. In his own words, he said, “I am a tough bugger.”

This proved to be the defining moment in his life. He realised that people, not possessions, were his most valuable assets. You can’t possess people, but you can build mutually caring, loving relationships with them and in so doing, build a wealth that money can’t buy.

This is the core message of my wide-ranging interview with Steve Smith, and it comes through in every aspect of his life and his story:

“Relationships are the greatest treasure.”

Lessons During Loss

In this podcast, I share my own ‘dark night of the soul’ with Steve Smith. In 1984, I lost everything in a business collapse. Whilst it was humiliating, it was also invigorating and taught me the same lesson that Steve learnt.

In life, relationships are everything. Yes, you have to eat and live somewhere, but your relationships and the integrity you need to keep them, matter more than anything else.

I asked Steve for his best tip on having a successful relationship with his wife.

Steve told me,

“Warwick, I did not know how to love my own wife because I never had any good examples. My own mother and father got divorced when I was 26 years old. Thankfully I started to hang around married couples who had good relationships and were actively working on them. I watched them closely and I started to emulate their good points and my marriage got better.

“One of the major turning points for me was learning my wife’s love language. The big one for her was affectionate touch, but I had to learn this, Warwick, and it took me a while.”

“So, what are your wife’s five love languages in order of importance?” I asked.

“Affectionate touch, quality time, words of affirmation, acts of service and much to my dismay, receiving gifts is last. That’s why you have to know what is at the top of the list and what is at the bottom. Harvey MacKay was right to say, ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail’.”

“What else has helped you to be a better dad and husband over the years?”

“Warwick, your weekly newsletter has helped me enormously. I have reprinted articles and read and reread them. It was through your newsletter that I got introduced to Darren Lewis at ‘Fathering Adventures’.

“All four of my children have done the younger and the older adventures. My youngest, who has just turned 16, was on to me asking me when we are going to do the final father and teenage son adventure of a lifetime. It is a good thing to be pestered about.”

I asked Steve what his top three tips are for Dads:

  1. Intentional time with your children.
  2. Live by the example you want them to follow. (The words of Mahatma Gandhi come to mind, “You must become the change you seek.”)
  3. Let your children know they are loved — TELL THEM OFTEN.

Lovework

Wow! Steve Smith is a hard act to follow, but let’s see what we can learn from him and put it into practice this week. Now that’s a challenge! If you have a question for Steve Smith, register for this coming Thursday night’s Dads4Kids Breakthrough Webinar. He will be one of our guests.

Yours for relationships that truly matter,
Warwick Marsh

Exclusive — Carrie Severino: Merrick Garland Ignored Threats Against Brett Kavanaugh After Serving 10 Years Together as Federal Judges

Carrie Severino, president of the Judicial Crisis Network, said on Thursday that Attorney General Merrick Garland did little in his capacity as head of the U.S. Department of Justice  to prosecute criminal threats against his former collegue, Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Garland was a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit between 1997 and 2020, including seven years as the court’s chief judge. Kavanaugh served as a federal judge alongside Garland on the same court between 2006 and 2018.

“What’s so flabbergasting to me is that Merrick Garland was a federal judge,” Severino remarked on Friday’s edition of the Breitbart News Daily podcast with host Alex Marlow. “He served with Justice Kavanaugh for a decade. I don’t understand why we’ve seen in him — as attorney general — really just allowing the most radical liberal voices to just run ramshackle over all of what the Department of Justice’s real priorities ought to be.”

Federal officials charged Nicholas John Roske, a 26-year-old man from California, with attempted murder on Wednesday for allegedly seeking to assassinate Kavanaugh for political reasons, including the accused’s stated objection to a leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court overruling Roe. v. Wade. Left-wing protesters remained outside of Kavanaugh’s home in Chevy Chase, MD, after Roske was arrested and charged.

Severino highlighted the Justice Department’s (DOJ) refusal to charge protesters outside of Kavanaugh’s home. Jonathan Turley, a law professor at Georgetown University, wrote that “such protests can be viewed as crimes” according to particular interpretations of 18 U.S.C. 1507, under which “it is a federal crime to protest near a residence occupied by a judge or jury with the intent to influence their decisions in pending cases, and this case remains pending.”

“I get that maybe they don’t want to make martyrs of these people in front of the justice’s home,” Severino speculated as to the rationale behind the DOJ’s refusal to prosecute protesters outside of Kavanaugh’s and other justices’ homes. “So I can see maybe this is part of the strategy.”

She concluded, “This is a serious issue, and by ignoring it this long, it’s just grown in magnitude. . … Merrick Garland is really the only person that has really actually condemned some of this, but even so, it’s been very, very slow in coming, and I think we haven’t seen actual action on the part of the Department of Justice to say, ‘Hey guys, you’re now on notice that we’ve let you walk around here, so far. We’re going to be starting to prosecute. So please leave, or we’re going to be arresting you.’ … It’s not just saying, ‘These laws are on the books,’ but, ‘We’re not going to enforce them.’ That is not a good way to go about law enforcement.”
