On November 16, according to the Philippine government, three Chinese coast guard vessels illegally blocked two Philippine supply ships carrying supplies to Second Thomas Shoal, and attacked them with water cannons.

In July 2016, The Hague International Court of Arbitration ruled the Second Thomas Shoal, which submerged in the water during high tide, as the constituent part of the Philippines continental shelf and belonged to the Philippines exclusive economic zone. It means that Communist China does not have any authority over it. However, the CCP refused to accept the ruling and forcefully advance its illegal sovereignty expansion.

In response, the Philippine Foreign Minister, Teodoro Locsin, issued a fierce statement on 18th, which condemned and protested to the CCP’s Ambassador to the Philippines and the CCP’s Foreign Minister. At the same time, he also reminded the CCP that all Philippine ships are protected by the joint defense treaty between the Philippines and the United States.
